August 2013: Day Tripping...

I joined the tourists and went on a day trip into the Purbecks in Dorset. I took one lens (my sigma 10-20mm).

First stop was Corfe Castle and a walk to the top. Corfe Castle is the gateway to the Purbecks and the Castle guards the principal route through. There has been a castle on the hill since 979 and it is now owned and run by the National Trust. The views from the top are stunning.

Next was on to Corfe Castle Station to watch the Swanage Railway steam trains come through the station with Corfe Castle in the background:

(processed in a retro style)

(a grab shot just as the guard was signalling for the train to leave).

Next was on to Durlston Castle in Swanage on the tip of the Jurassic Coast. Durlston Castle is a Victorian building and has recently been restored to include a visitor's centre, cafe and various viewpoints:

(the view along the coast towards Poole/Bournemouth)

(view from one of the viewing areas, the person adds a sense of scale).

The Great Globe is one of the largest stone spheres in the world:

Sometime it's easy to forget what is within a few miles. Three stunning attractions making an excellent day out!
