March 2012: Return of the Bolddog Lings...
The Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motocross Riders featured at the last Dorset County Show. When I took the photos I kept the riders in context with their immediate surroundings. You could see them jumping using ramps and in an arena. See previous blog post:

I went to a talk the other day by a photographer who was keen on action and movement. It made me think. I re-visited all my photos from the display and looked at the ones where I tried to catch the motocross riders in mid air.
I didn't zoom in close, so an element of cropping has taken place (cropping has its place). Each image was taken at an approximate focal length of 150mm at a shutter speeed of around 1/1000th second. Each image has had an approximate 40%-50% crop.
The question: Are the bikers better shown against the backdrop of the sky only or more in context with the ramps/arena showing. You decide...
