Changing light
In: Landscapes
Portland is a good place for photography; there are various locations to choose from depending on the light. I arrived on Portland about half an hour before sunset and decided to check out the coast path overlooking Chesil Beach.
I was intrigued by the Portland Stone and the sunset light coming from the left, lighting up the rocks and some shadows:

Moments later, the light disappeared leaving a much flatter, cooler light without shadows:

It pays to wait to see what the light will do. Which do you prefer? I particularly like Chesil Beach disappearing into the mist and the pastel sunset colours.
The same can be seen here, on Weymouth Seafront. The top photograph was taken when the light was flat. The bottom photograph was taken 15 minutes later when the sun rose above the horizon line from the right, illuminating the buildings on the promenade.
