February 2013: Digital manipulation...
Displaying images in a panel - a series of images say more than a single image...
A friend of mine sent me a kodak style border for photoshop, which set me thinking on something I'd wanted to try for ages - laying out a series of images...
After a bit of searching online I found a psd template file to create a 3d wall together with the 'action file' to run with it in photoshop. This was followed by a youtube video tutorial on how to apply 'action files'.
For my first attempt, I found nine images that I took during the Weymouth Cultural Olympiad events, resized them, placed them in the layers, then ran the action file. The result is below:

I then tried using nine of the images used in my 2013 landscapes calender. The result is below:
It took a few attempts to get it right, I had to place images into the right layers to make sure they came out in the right place in the panel. The original file had a shadow line running horizontal across the images, which I wasn't happy with. Once I'd work out the layers, I switched this off and increased the reflection at the bottom.
Below is one of the first attempts with the horizontal shadow lines showing (switched off in the final version) and the photos in the wrong place.

(work in progress showing shadow lines, removed in final version).
I'll be creating more of these. The template file can be adapted to have just three or six images, by deleting the layers after the action file has been applied.
