April 2014: The Dray Horse...

Dorchester’s newest addition is a magnificent bronze sculpture of a dray horse.

The 12 foot high horse was drawn through Dorchester town centre on a dray cart by two horses before being positioned at Brewery Square.

The horse has a name: “Drummer” - created as a tribute to the last dray horses that worked at the site when it was home to the Eldridge Pope brewery.

For this type of event there is opportunity for a few 'record' photographs, but also the chance to be a bit more creative.

The sculpture positioned at the end of South Street before the parade:

A jazz band entertained the crowds:

(focussing on part of the band member says just as much as seeing the whole of the band member).

The procession going along South Street towards Brewery Square:

On arrival at Brewery Square the sculpture had to be lifted and turned:

My favourite photo and something more creative - a reflection in one of the jazz instruments showing the sculpture, the town pump and the corn exchange. I'm even in this photo!
