October 2011: Architecture...
In: Architecture
It was recently the Portland Heritage Trust annual - 2011 - photo competition. It is a popular competition with photographs being on display over a weekend. There is an entrance fee and all monies raised go to the Heritage Trust.
This year I entered three photos into the architecture section. I was awarded third place for my photograph "steps".

This photo is based on repetitive lines (strong diagonal lines) and shapes, with the main elements being placed on approximate thirds. It also lent itself to a black and white conversion.
My second entry was "geometry in architecture". This is a photograph of the roof and fan vaulting inside of Sherborne Abbey. There are dozens of shapes in this symmetrical image. The architectural detail is amazing.
My final entry was called "looking down". Again it is based on repetitive (and diagonal) lines and geometric shapes.

There were over 500 entries so the judge had a difficult time selecting winners and plenty of money was raised.
