Street Photography Part One
After attending a Damien Demolder Street Photography Seminar, I was itching to get my hands on a suitable small, light and portable camera. I want photographs [generally] straight off camera, ready for use with little or no post photo processing. I’ve gone for a Panasonic; at just over 400 grams, it’s ideal for photography on the go. Key features are 4k video (30fps with the ability to pull out a single frame), tiltable lcd screen, use of the screen to select the point of focus and touch screen shutter function to take the photograph.
Street photography has a very broad definition. It could be “anything on the streets” including people and their behaviour in public. But does it have to be candid? Does it have to include people?
The seminars introduced me to the idea of photographing people without them knowing. Here are my first few photographs.
This was one of my first, taken on Weymouth Seafront.

The Victorian Shelters on Weymouth Seafront offer great street photography opportunities:

For this one, I sat in a shelter on a rainy day. I composed for the deckchairs and tower and then waited for the people I wanted to appear in the photo:

This is one of my favourites, "Passing Time". I sat here for 15 minutes wondering who was related to who. This was made more difficult because no-one appeared to talk to each other!
