Under the Stars

Another night of star photography. A good location is St Catherine's Chapel. We met a six for a walk up the hill for sunset just before seven.

There was alot of fast moving low cloud. Despite the breezy conditions on the more exposed side of the hill I caught a two and a half minute exposure using the Lee Little Stopper:

About 40 minutes after sunset we were looking at the Chapel from a different viewpoint experimenting with 30 second exposures and silhouettes.

It was then down to the pub for a soft drink, a coffee and general chat about photography. About half past nine it was back up the hill to see the stars. Luckily the cloud had cleared and the windy conditions had dropped. We experimented with different viewpoints and different camera settings (lens wide open, shutter speeds between 15 and 30 seconds and ISO 1500 to ISO 3200). There was also a bit of chat on processing of the RAW files.

The Milky Way was visible from one viewpoint, to the right of the Chapel in these photographs.

The Chapel was also lit from the inside by torchlight:

It made for a late evening/early morning, but it was well worth it.
