May 2012: Unveiling the Veils of Light
In: Landscapes
Weymouth's seafront laser show: The Veils of Light.
The project - referred to as the giant Olympic 2012 laser show - forms part of the Weymouth seafront regeneration programme. Seven 15-metre high columns were recently installed at various points along the promenade. It is reportedly the UK’s first ever permanent, unmanned and probably the largest laser light art installation in the country.
The local paper reported that there would be a delay in the official opening, but I heard that the lasers would be tested starting half an hour after sunset. Testing actually started just over an hour after sunset, but it was well worth the wait, although after an hour an a half it was getting cold! It was a very calm evening with almost a complete black sky.
I've never taken photos of lasers before, the first couple of short exposures came out without the lasers showing! (I'm not fully sure why). Here are a selection of my photographs of Weymouth's Laser Light Show - the veils of light - using long exposures taken during the testing:

The 2012 olympic sailing is being hosted in Weymouth and Portland, Dorset. Weymouth and Portland is the largest Olympic and Paralympic venue outside London.
More photos of the Veils of Light - Weymouth laser light show in Dorset, will be posted when they are officially up and running.
